History
"Four generations
and nine decades of community commitment"
In 1914, the Vandale Funeral Home, under the direction of the late Fred E. Vandale, began serving Roane County's funeral needs with a Main Street location. The business moved in 1929 to its present location on Beauty Street, in what was formerly the Roane County Hospital and later the Lowe Hotel.
Since 1929, the funeral home has undergone extensive remodeling and renovation, always with serving our customers in mind. George A. Vandale became Owner and President upon the death of his father, Fred, in 1945. A portion of the original porch was enclosed in the 1950's to create an indoor lounge area. Wings were added to the structure so that the building would be handicapped-accessible, and in the early 1970's an additional memorial chapel, which seats 250, was added to handle the growing business. Properties adjacent to the funeral home were purchased and converted into large, lighted parking areas. an empty garage located next to the funeral home was converted into an indoor monument showroom.
Upon the death of George Vandale in 1989, his son-in-law, Richard V. Taylor became Owner and President. The business changes it's name from the Vandale Funeral Home to the TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, INC. upon the return of the fourth generation into the family business, Mark E. and Craig A. Taylor.
"As
we began another year, we would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our
friends for their support over the past 86 years. Not affiliated with any other
funeral home, locally or nationally, we remain committed to providing courteous,
friendly, honest and caring service...just like we have since 1914."
